Love it or hate it, the Start screen is here to stay—but, at least in Windows 8.1, it's easier to manage than in Windows 8.
To start off, the Start screen now has its own dedicated Customize view where you can tweak a variety of settings.
1- Right-click on the Start screen,
2- and select the Customize button from the app bar.
(The screen dims slightly as a visual tipoff that you’re in Customize mode.)
3- Click on any tile on the screen, such as the one for the Weather app, and several options appear on the app bar, including Unpin from Start, Uninstall, Resize, and "Turn live tile on" (or "off" if it’s already on).
4- Click on the Resize option, and you’ll see four different sizes: small, medium, wide, and large. All four sizes appear only for certain tiles; most other tiles offer two or three different sizes.
5- Select the remaining tiles in the current column.
(You can now move all of the selected tiles to another spot on the Start screen simply by dragging and dropping them. You can organize similar tiles into a single group and give the group a name by typing it in the Name Group field. When done, click anywhere on the screen to exit the Customize view.)
